With the horror movie genre continuing to out perform expectations, films of the paranormal kind are succeeding both at the box office and digital TV with Hula, Amazon and Netflix delivering highly anticipated content. The keys to success center around good storytelling. For Galatia Films this begins with mounds of research and the more the better.
“Patterns emerge when you step back and look at real life paranormal case files”, executive director Daniel McNicoll explained, “I’ve reviewed hundreds personal stories and haunting cases, these are real people, in real dilemmas. Their struggles in many of the files were very heartbreaking, but what did it all mean? What was the bigger picture?” Taking an almost PhD level of research when it came to cataloging an amalgam of such findings, Galatia Films has one of the largest collections of true life haunting case files. “If we’re going to step into the horror genre, we’re going to do it right”, says McNicoll, “and there is no sense in doing what has already been done before, we should be looking to add something fresh and new to the genre”.
Galatia Films takes an innovative approach to storytelling with “Amalgam” and with exorcisms on the rise, demon possession seems to be a very real problem for many. “The timing could not be better to take a deeper look at what’s going on in peoples lives”. McNicoll stated. “I love horror films that make you think, the music cues and jumps are great and valuable to a good experience but what you really want is to have your audience contemplating and thinking about the film weeks later.”
